    Marriage Logistics

Getting married in St. John, USVI is a dream come true for many couples. To legally tie the knot in this tropical paradise, there are a few requirements to keep in mind. Make sure to check with the local authorities for the most up-to-date information on marriage licenses and documentation.

The best part is that weddings in St. John are legally recognized in the United States, adding an extra layer of convenience for couples. Plus, there are no blood tests required, and same-sex marriages are fully recognized.

To simplify the process, you can now apply for your marriage license online through the USVI Superior Court's website. Follow these easy steps:

    1. Visit the marriage license application page on the Superior Court Website.
    2. Scroll past the detailed application instructions and click 'E-filing' at the bottom right.
    3. Select 'Become an E-filer Today.'
    4. Gather both of your information, including social security numbers, divorce decrees/death certificates (if applicable), and credit card details.
    5. Submit your application online.
    6. Wait a week or two, then email [email protected] to request that your documents be emailed directly to you.

Once your license is in hand, arrange for a licensed officiant or minister to perform the ceremony.

    Weddings on Trunk Bay

This sprawling beach offers ample space to host your dream wedding, with breathtaking views that include the picturesque British Virgin Islands on the horizon. Trunk Bay is a public beach known for its breathtaking beauty. The crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and lush greenery create a romantic backdrop for your special day. The beach's untouched natural beauty is simply awe-inspiring, making it an ideal location for an unforgettable wedding ceremony.

However, like any paradise, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Occasionally, multiple weddings may coincide, but Trunk Bay's vast expanse ensures everyone has their own slice of paradise.

To make the most of your Trunk Bay wedding experience, I recommend a tranquil morning ceremony around 9 am or the serene late afternoon hours around 4:30/5:00 pm when the beachgoers have bid adieu to the sun.

Transportation to Trunk Bay is a breeze, whether you've rented a car or prefer taxi service.

Trunk Bay goes the extra mile to pamper you and your guests with convenient amenities, including:

    • Bathrooms
    • Changing Rooms
    • Showers
    • Snorkel and chair rentals
    • A beach bar offering a delectable limited food menu
    • Pavilions for lively beach parties

Keep in mind that there's a ticket booth at the entrance, typically collecting a $5/person entrance fee during the day. However, in the tranquil mornings and late afternoons, the booth remains closed, allowing you to revel in the beauty of Trunk Bay without any additional cost."

St John Preparations for Weddings and Elopement

    1. Renting a Large VRBO or Airbnb

If you're planning on having a destination wedding or eloping in Trunk Bay, consider renting a large VRBO or Airbnb.

This will not only provide ample space for you and your wedding party but also allow for stunning pre-wedding photoshoots and engagement sessions in the beautiful surroundings.

    2. Timing Your Wedding

When booking a date for your wedding, it's important to consider potential cruise crowds, as St. John is a popular destination for cruise ships. To ensure a more intimate experience, it is recommended to schedule your ceremony two hours before sunset. This timing not only allows for a stunning golden-hour backdrop but also helps avoid any potential crowds.

    3. Walking Gracefully on Beach Sand

When considering walking in heels on the sandy beach in your dress, it's a good idea to practice to ensure a comfortable fit, especially if your dress is strapless. From personal experience, I can share that walking in the sand can sometimes cause sinking, which can result in your dress shifting and potentially affecting the overall look, especially around the chest area. To avoid any unexpected surprises, here are some helpful tips to ensure your wedding dress stays sand-free and picture-perfect.

First, opt for wedge heels or block heels instead of delicate stilettos, as they offer more stability on uneven terrain. Heel protectors or heel stoppers designed for outdoor events can further prevent your heels from sinking into the sand by distributing your weight more evenly. Alternatively, explore stylish footwear alternatives like barefoot sandals or elegant flat sandals that are both beach-friendly and comfortable. Choose a firmer, more compact section of the beach for your ceremony, and practice walking on the sand with your chosen shoes beforehand to build confidence and adjust your stride. For added stability, use a fabric or wooden aisle runner during the ceremony.

Finally, discuss your concerns with your photographer to ensure they capture the natural beauty of the beach setting while minimizing the visibility of your footwear. With these steps, you can confidently navigate the sandy shores on your wedding day without worrying about sinking into the sand.

    4. Mosquito Precautions in May

If you plan to have your wedding in May, be aware that there may be an increase in mosquito activity after rain showers. To ensure a comfortable experience for you and your guests, consider using mosquito repellent and providing citronella candles or other insect deterrents.

    5. Hiring the Right Officiant

Finding the perfect officiant to solemnize your wedding vows at Trunk Bay is a crucial step in creating a memorable ceremony. Start by seeking recommendations from local wedding planners or conducting online research to discover experienced officiants who are familiar with Trunk Bay's regulations and the unique charm of the location.

Reach out to potential officiants to discuss your vision, expectations, and any personalized touches you'd like to include in your ceremony. Many officiants in the area offer a range of services, from traditional to customized, allowing you to tailor your vows to your preferences. It's essential to establish a connection with your chosen officiant, as they will play a significant role in making your Trunk Bay wedding a heartfelt and meaningful experience

I was fortunate to have hired Captain Phil for my wedding in Trunk Bay. Sadly, Captain Phil passed away in 2021, but his memory lives on as a testament to his dedication and passion for creating memorable experiences. His expertise and warm personality added a special touch to our wedding day.

    6. Choosing a Photographer

Consider flying in a photographer or hiring a local one in St. John to capture the precious moments of your wedding day.

A skilled photographer can not only document the ceremony but also showcase the natural beauty of Trunk Bay in your wedding photos.

    7. Honeymoon in Jost Van Dyke and Beyond

After saying "I do" in Trunk Bay, consider extending your stay and enjoying your honeymoon in nearby Jost Van Dyke or other close areas. These stunning locations offer a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, giving you the opportunity to create even more cherished memories.

    8. Thank You Cards

Pro Tip: Make a thank you post card by writing your name in the sand or saying thank you!

    Final Thoughts

Remember, Trunk Bay in St. John is an idyllic destination for a wedding, providing a picturesque setting, legal recognition in the United States, and a truly unforgettable experience. Your dream wedding awaits in this tropical paradise.
